Truck and bus manufacturer Isuzu East Africa (Isuzu EA), today hosted Eliud Kipchoge for a welcome breakfast at Nairobi’s Ole Sereni Hotel to celebrate his recent win at the 2017 Berlin Marathon. Speaking at the event, Isuzu EA Managing Director Rita Kavashe, emphasized the importance of celebrating and honouring Kenyan athletes as it boosts their morale and encourages them to work harder.

“Let me begin by extending my heartiest congratulations to Eliud Kipchoge. This win recognizes your hard work and outstanding achievements, and I hope that this will spur you on to achieve even greater heights in sports,” said Rita. “Athletes work very hard for what they achieve, whether they be amateur or professional. Therefore, it is only right we honour, celebrate, appreciate and encourage each one of them, irrespective of a loss or win.”

Rita explained the genesis of the brand partnership with Eliud, stating that it was a natural brand fit.

“Eliud Kipchoge resonates well with our corporate and product brands. He has time and again shown strength, resilience and the tenacity to win through his performances. These are attributes that are intrinsically shared with the Isuzu brand. It was therefore fitting to partner with Eliud as our Isuzu Dmax Brand Ambassador,” said Rita.

The Isuzu EA Managing Director also assured Mr Kipchoge that the company will keep its promise of rewarding him with a Luxury Isuzu Dmax when he breaks the world record in any future international marathon that he will participate in.

A pleased Eliud Kipchoge touched on the world record emphasizing on the goodwill that came out of the Berlin Marathon irrespective of him not breaking the world record and a promise to work even harder.

“I am happy to be amongst friends and family as we celebrate yet another victory for Kenya. As much as Kenya hoped for a win and breaking of the World Record in Berlin, it wasn’t possible.” noted Eliud. “However, a lot of goodwill has come out of this race and I promise Kenya one thing, as a team, we will keep training, working harder aiming to break the record and flying the Kenyan flag even higher. This is my promise to my countrymen,” said Eliud.

Eliud further reiterated the importance of celebrating athletes irrespective of a loss or win to boost their morale to work harder and appreciate their efforts.

“When I signed my partnership with Isuzu, I explained why their promise of Tuko Pamoja Safarini really means a lot to me. This is a promise of companionship through the highs and the lows, through the happy times and the sad times, said Eliud. “Today, you have stood with me despite not breaking the world record. Through this gesture of appreciation, my family, my team and I say thank you. It is rare to see athletes celebrated in the country after representing Kenya.”

Eliud Kipchoge last month signed a brand ambassador partnership with Isuzu EA worth Ksh 15M to become the Isuzu Dmax Brand Ambassador. Through the partnership, Eliud Kipchoge received an Isuzu Dmax Double Cab pick-up for use during training and family activities.
